Day 1 - Middle Fork of the Salmon - Self Support Kayak

We launched with fully loaded kayaks at Marsh Creek on May 10th. We had fighter jets flying over us as we loaded our kayaks. I couldn't help but play "Highway to the Danger Zone" from Top Gun out loud, for the boys as they packed ;). I haven't run the Marsh Creek section of river, so was a bit nervous about what to expect. Fortunately, the flows weren't too high, and we split the group up into 2 groups of 5. That made it easier to manage portaging over logs, etc. The kids did great and we had no issues. Though, just before we got to Dagger Falls, it started snowing and the "wheels started coming off" the Bodester. He was clearly out of gas, and in need of some snacks! We made it to Dagger Falls, warmed up, ate some food, and watched the big boys run Dagger Falls. Bodie, Dax, and I portaged the falls and put in just below. We ran Velvet Falls and the first 6 miles of river after Boundary Creek and got to camp around 6ish. It was still snowing but fortunately we had a hot springs to warm up in!
